Five Tips To Organize Your Time In The Direct Selling Industry

As you continue your career into the direct selling industry, it is easy to be so overwhelmed trying to keep up with each task. Often times, you find yourself at the end of the day in shock as to where the day went and how little was accomplished. This is a sign to get organized. You can only be successful in direct selling if you are managing your time instead of your time managing you! Here are some tips to get you started on the journey to the new organized you!

1. Get Rid of Clutter

In the past, you may have seen movies or heard people say that messes are ok because it is their mess and they know where everything is located. If it is taking you ten minutes to find a document, business card or number-you are not organized and are wasting time. Nothing is worse than surrounding yourself with clutter while you are trying to work. This goes for on the computer as well as in the office. It wastes time, energy and creativity. Does your desktop look like a million icons threw up on your machine? Organize those files so that they are easy to find and not cluttered.

2. Get A Plan

Design a system that will allow the files and items you use the most to be the easiest to access. The point of a plan is to not allow the clutter to build up again. Develop a system for how items come into your home office. Treat each item as a foreign object that has to be dealt with. File as you go – don't put it off until later. Develop a station of items that are most used, such as business cards or references that can be easily accessed. Come up with a filing system and stick to it so that organization becomes part of everyday life. You can also use your planner to record ideas and discoveries when you have them so that they are easily located and not forgotten.

3. Get a Planner

Purchase a planner that not only allows you to plan from day to day, but hour to hour. At the beginning of each week, organize tasks for the week that need to be accomplished including any appointments you have outside of direct selling such as doctor visits, etc. Then each day organize your day. Set aside 30 minutes to an hour at the beginning and end of each day to view email. Otherwise, you will lose time throughout the day sorting through email. Email is like a vacuum of time and consumes your time completely if not managed. Make sure that every minute of your day is accounted for, schedule breaks, but do not have openings for idle time.

4. Set Instant Messenger To Away

Instant messaging is a great invention for those working out of the home. It allows you to be able to keep in touch with those in the business, swap ideas and techniques, etc. It is also can be a huge waste of time when it begins to be one social conversation after another. Allot time during the day for messenger, but set it away for the majority of the day so that you can get work done.

5. Do Computer Maintenance

As part of the direct selling industry, you spend a lot of time on the computer. Make sure your computer is running at the best of its ability. This means checking and protecting your computer from viruses, uploading updates, and limiting the amount of programs open at one time. Waiting for sites to load or your computer to function when it is in much need of maintenance, can drain huge blocks of time from your day.

Remember organization is a learned trait. When it is, you will be amazed at the amount of time that opens up in your schedule. It will also mean increased success in direct selling.
